Who is Next?

It is almost a year since Prasasti 4 was recruited back then in December 2014. So, following the tradition, Prasasti has to recruit a new member!

In this year recruitment, new members of Prasasti were chosen from English Department’ students year 2013. It has been an annual tradition for Prasasti to welcome anyone who wants to join in. Prasasti never has difficult requirements for joining in. The requirements are pretty simple, one must be a student of English Department and must love playing gamelan J

The preparation had been done weeks before the open recruitment. All members of Prasasti gathered around to discuss steps to recruit new family members. The discussion ended with a decision that the Open Recruitment would be held on the first week of November with Mba Lintang Larasati as the Supervisor.

Are you curious on how we hunt new family member of Prasasti? Let’s check it out!

First stage was a door to door promotion. Since Prasasti 4 held responsibility for this event, so Prasasti 4 went door to door promotion to English Department student year 2013. This was for an introduction of Prasasti; what Prasasti is, who Prasasti are, what achievements Prasasti has, etc., thus they would feel a bit familiar with Prasasti since Prasasti 4 promoted it first. Furthermore, we hoped some of the students would like to join Prasasti.

Second stage was an interview. There are 17 people who filled in the sign-in form and interested in joining Prasasti. However, not all the-soon-to-be-members were available that day to do the interview. So, some others did the interview the day after. The interview itself was held in 2nd floor of Plaza for about 2 hours (started at 4 P.M and ended at 6 PM).  The interview session was conducted by members of Prasasti 4.

Last stage was the announcement. Finally, Prasasti 4 announced who were accepted into the big family. So, a welcoming ceremony was prepared. For your background knowledge, there is always a ritual (kind of) for welcoming new members into the family. The welcoming ritual was held on December 2nd 2015 at 6.00 P.M. New members of Prasasti 5 were led to our practice room by some older members (FYI, we aren’t that old) by walking on the aisle decorated and lit by lampions.

After that, Prasasti all-star (collaboration from Prasasti 1-2-3-4) played a Lancaran composed by our coach, Mas Nanang Karbito. With its incredibly fast tempo, Lancaran was well played, and thus came the speeches.

Mas Nanang, Mas Yoza, and Mbak Lintang, gave their speeches alternately. Mostly, it was about the Prasasti and giving a new spirit for the new members. Then, one by one, all members of Prasasti introduced themselves in order to get to know each other better.

Mbak Lintang, as the supervisor for this recruitment said “I hope the 5th generation will continue what have always been treasured by previous generations; to stick together, to treat each other as family would, and to embrace the family. I hope they will learn not only about gamelan but also about each other and most importantly, themselves.”

New members of Prasasti were listening carefully on what Mas Nanang said. They are all adorable, aren't they?

Prasasti 5 chose their desired instruments

The welcoming ritual was ended, thus Prasasti 5 started to have their very first practice with Prasasti. All faces were lit up, seeing gamelan right in front of their eyes. They chose their desired instrument, even though some were still shy in choosing the instruments. When Mas Nanang started the cue, new stars were born.
